Concrete Leveling: Lift Sunken Slabs Without Replacing Them
When a concrete slab has sunk but has not broken up, lifting it back to grade costs far less than replacing it and is usually finished in a day. The material is injected through small holes to fill the void underneath and raise the slab.
When leveling is the right fix
The slab has to be structurally sound. Sunken but whole, cracked in one or two places at most, and not rocking into separate pieces under load.
Typical candidates are walkways that have dropped at a joint and created a trip hazard, driveway sections that have settled near the garage apron, patio slabs that now pitch back toward the house, and steps or landings that have dropped.
It is not the answer for a slab broken into multiple moving pieces, or one crumbling through its depth. Lifting those just raises the problem.
Why slabs sink
Poorly compacted fill from the original construction settling over years, which is the most common reason.
Water washing soil out from under the slab, often from a downspout discharging next to it or from a drainage problem nearby.
Where water is the cause, lifting the slab without fixing the drainage means it sinks again. That is the part worth checking before spending anything.

How long does concrete leveling take?
Most residential jobs are completed within a few hours, and the surface can generally be used the same day.
That speed against a multi day replacement with a curing period is a large part of why leveling is worth considering first.
How long does concrete leveling last?
When the underlying cause has been addressed, a properly lifted slab can stay level for many years.
The qualifier matters. If water is still washing soil out from under the slab, it will settle again. Diagnosing why it sank is as important as the lift itself.
